In May of 2001 Sharon Knight and Cameron Rundle (owners of Rundle
Farms Roadside Market) decided to add a tea room to their existing
business. The Apple Crate Tea Room & Café was born. “Rundle’s
Tea Room” (as named by many) was enjoyed by many Brighton residents
and tourists until March 2005 when Sharon and Cameron retired from
their business.
Since that time Sharon and her daughter, Julie Rittwage (new owner)
have been looking for just the right location to re-open the tea
room. After a few disappointing attempts, in late 2006 the
opportunity at the new 46 Prince Edward Square location became available. After
months of planning and construction The Apple Crate Tea Room & Café re-opened
its doors for regular business on May 7, 2007.
The new tea room will offer the same straight-forward menu using
fresh ingredients for the soups, sandwiches, and desserts made from
scratch daily in the kitchen, which will be run by the Founder of
The Apple Crate – Sharon! Our menu now includes a new
light breakfast menu, along with lunch and afternoon tea items. The
kitchen will also offer take out catering and eat-in dinner catering,
again with fresh ingredients for the traditional home-cooked meals
enjoyed by all.
Along with the catering and tea room the new business will offer
Gift Baskets and a variety of tea and apple related foods and gifts.
